24 Solar Terms -" Great Snow "

The Great Snow, one of the 24 solar terms, usually arrives around December 7th. It is the 21st solar term and the third one in winter. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine and health preservation, the Great Snow marks a favorable time for "tonifying" the body. Tonifying includes nurturing, regulating, cultivating, supplementing, and protecting. Specifically, it involves nourishing the spirit, adjusting diet, practicing physical exercises, being cautious in sexual activities, and adapting to the cold, aiming to enhance health and longevity through comprehensive care.

In terms of tonification, although it's a great time for supplementation, it should be done in moderation, avoiding excessive and unbalanced nourishment. Common vegetables such as radishes and Chinese cabbage are recommended in daily meals. Meats like pork, beef, and various fish and poultry, along with eggs, are common supplements. Medicinal foods like red dates, lychees, longans, walnuts, and wolfberries can be selected based on individual needs. Additionally, herbal soups like Angelica sinensis (当归) and ginger lamb soup, as well as winter-specific tonics, can be considered based on personal preferences.

Here's a nutritional recipe for the Great Snow:

Goji Berry Pork Strips:

[Ingredients] 20g goji berries, 100g lean pork, 20g green bamboo shoots, oil, salt, sugar, monosodium glutamate, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, dry starch, and soy sauce (quantities as needed).

[Effects] Nourishes Yin, enriches blood, nourishes the liver, and tonifies the kidneys.

This dish combines medicinal and culinary elements, providing a nourishing and dual-tonifying effect on Yin and blood, promoting clear vision and overall fitness. It is beneficial for those experiencing physical weakness, anemia, fatigue, low libido, and diabetes, contributing to overall well-being and longevity.
