24 Solar Terms -" Beginning of Winter "

Beginning of Winter, the 19th solar term in the 24 solar terms, falls on November 8th, marking the official arrival of winter. Winter is the season of storing vitality, and the best time for nourishment is from beginning of Winter to beginning of Spring, the period after the beginning of winter until the start of spring. Winter health mainly focuses on methods like sleep, diet, exercise, and herbal remedies, aiming to preserve vitality, strengthen the body, and promote longevity. So, how can one maintain good health in winter? Let's listen to the introduction from Chinaturel.

  1. Sleep: It's advisable to go to bed early and wake up early in winter. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that autumn and winter are yin seasons, with yin energy being preserved during this time. Thus, focusing on the storage of yin energy and improving sleep quality is essential for winter health. Going to bed early and waking up early are the primary principles for sleep health during this season.

  2. Exercise: Engage in appropriate physical activities to stimulate the body's functions. Moderate exercise in winter generates heat and contributes to physical fitness. Aerobic exercises such as jogging, badminton, skiing, Eight Section Brocade (a form of qigong), and Tai Chi can enhance blood circulation, metabolism, and overall body functions, providing warmth and protection against the cold.

  3. Diet Therapy: Follow the ancient wisdom of "nourishing yin in autumn and winter," "not disturbing yang," and "supplementing the deficient and warming the cold" when adjusting your diet according to the changes in the seasonal climate. Here are two recommended soup recipes from Chinaturel:
